Morgan Jackson started playing golf at the age of 11, but by 16 he was playing for Warwickshire County Golf and Warwickshire County Cricket. He had to decide on career path and dedicate his efforts to one sport. Morgan chose golf which he found more enjoyable. In truth he found the process of team selection for Cricket too stressful. Morgan was born and raised locally attending, Stratford upon Avon High School, and Henley College to study Sports & Science, he went on to a PGA degree in conduction with Belfry Golf and Birmingham University. Morgan turned pro golfer at the age of 22.
Morgan Jackson pro golfer at the Welcombe Hotel in Stratford tells his story about how he nearly lost his central vision which could have cost him his career.

“I started having headaches just after I turned pro around the age of 23. I figured that it was time, I got an eye test. I got a free eye test appointment at a well-known high street chain, and they fitted me with contact lenses. I continued to have the headaches and blurred vision so last year I booked myself in locally for a comprehensive eye examination at CG Optical in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The Optometrists who checked my vision used some drops to dilate my eye and looked at the inside through a special lens. They used optical coherence tomography (OCT) to check the back of my eye and that’s when they discovered that I had a hole in my macula. A Macular hole is when a tear or opening forms in your macular. The Optometrist explained that it was probably the hole that was causing things in my central vision to look blurry, wavy, and distorted. If it was left to grow, dark or blind spots would begin to also appear.  Thankfully CG Optical contacted the eye hospital and got me an emergency appointment the next day which pretty much saved my sight.

Although the condition usually occurs in just one eye there is a small risk of it occurring in both. I have had many Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans to check everything is OK and have been given the “all clear”. I have regular check-ups with CG Optical who monitor my condition with their Optomap technology. This means I don’t have to keep going back to the eye hospital.

I am very thankful that CG Optical saved my sight so I could continue my career in golf and am pleased to say I will be playing on Euro Pro Tour & Alps Tour plus DP World Tour Qualifying School at the end of the year for 2023.

Your ophthalmologist removes the vitreous that is pulling on your macula. Then he or she puts a gas bubble inside the eye. This bubble helps flatten the macular hole and hold it in place while your eye heals. The gas bubble slowly goes away on its own.
